Starting to sound familiar but I too was anti Harley til recently, bought mine to gee up a mates stalled s&s build and love it! Mine started life as an 883 but was increased to 1200 and customised as a recovery project for an Afghanistan vet. Worked for him and is doing the biz for me.

Nice run out over the Moors yesterday in the late summer sun. Stopped for a jar at my favourite not so local pub.

Well, just back from a short blast and I seem to have cracked the air filtration issue. 1 layer of close weave muslin cloth lightly stretched over the bellmouth guard does the trick, running a treat. I'll keep looking for a pucker solution but sound for now.

Summer's holding on so chance of another trip to my not so local, local for a pint and a trip along the moor road with so many memories. Being going to the pub since a boy, they sold sweets and pickled eggs, recently reopened after a long overdue refit. Hope it keeps trading, a traditional 165 year old boozer.

She's a beut! A bit older than mine and looking good.
Thank you. It's a 76', with EI and a Mikuni. The EI and Mikuni don't make it fast, just more reliable. I can now count on it starting every time, and stranding me further from home. (haha). I have a 71' and 01', they're in progress.

When you think, first out 1957, yours a 76, mine an 04 and still recognisable as the modern version. At least until they water cooled it.

Side/kickstand not returning fully and seeming loose so laid over on supports and checked it out. Again pleased with the overengineering, another small hole drilled and job done. The play seems built in to stop it rolling off the stand etc.

All Harley’s have that odd feeling sidestand set up whereby it looks like there’s WAY too much play!
But as you say, it’s the locking mechanism to prevent it rolling off the stand.
Rather disconcerting until you get used to it though !

Getting to be my jump on bike of choice, but have noticed that the more I get used to it the faster I ride. Still well within my capabilities but more worried about other road users. Do they ever read the highway code? Luckily I have had defensive driving training in jungle, on sand, in the Arctic and the urban jungles of the Middle East, all agreeing that if a tricky situation arises chose an exit route and power yourself out! Still works but starting to find it a bit scary.

Nice run out yesterday for an hour or so, coast road out and moor road back, last for this year? First frost this morning, roads will be getting salted next so laid her up for the winter. A good rub over with an oily rag and a few squirts of light oil and job done!
