Heated Grip question

I am looking into putting the Avon heated grips on my XC. From what I can tell the wire for the throttle side grip goes down the center of the handlebar meaning I have to drill a hole in the bar to fish the wire out of. Is this correct? Does anyone have any experience with this? Just making sure that is what is required. I am a mechanic and can do it no problem, but not sure I'm real excited about drilling holes in the handlebars.
